Smart city project management will often turn out to be different than most projects since it will span over multiple municipal sectors, and need co-operation across municipal borders, as well as between business, academia and public servants. In addition, smart city projects require understanding of different work cultures, and combining societal and economic needs with technological possibilities. In such projects it will normally be an advantage to have the project management done by someone not entrenched in any of the leading departments for the project.
